Police

Quarterly informal meeting last week with local Inspector and his North Walsham Sergeant, basically to exchange issues and concerns. Recent re-organisation has improved local staffing levels meaning can be pretty proactive. Generally a very good picture. Talked about the impact of the weak economy – growth of metal and fuel theft, especially in isolated areas and “crimes to live” [...]

See 6 January.Saw the story in the EDP about the demonstration in Thorpe Hamlet against Phil Hardy www.edp24.co.uk/news/politics/thorpe_hamlet_residents  This issue just won’t go away. What’s the betting the Tories have lined up a “safe seat” for him for 2013?

Sainsbury’s

Finally opened their new exit 10 days or so ago – must have been waiting for the beacons on the zebra crossing for over 2 months! I hope it won’t be as bad for the residents living near it as they fear. It should take some traffic away from Church Street. My best route  from [...]

Kickz

Local Steering Group Friday afternoon. 415 individual young people have been to Kickz in NW since last September. Average attendance in past 6 weeks is 28 – always a quieter time of year so happy with that. Our letter to businesses raised £1,500 and with other monies we are now OK until the end of August. [...]

What do Councillors do?

Only had to go into County Hall once last week, rest of the time in my Division but  only Monday evening, Thursday afternoon and half the weekend were not spent on Councillor  duties. See 15 January. Progress –  I think. Chap from Anglian Water wants to meet up with me in the second half of March to share the results of their investigations. District Council guy is poring over Land Registry documents from the 1980s – may well be some ditches or culverts were illegally blocked off then. [...]

See 4 December. Got the report. Reconfiguration would cost £4,500 to provide 6 more spaces and £15 – £20,000 for 8 to 10. The report queries whether a dropping off point would work - Parents want to take their children, especially the very young ones to the door – and thinks there could be car insurance issues too. I am meeting up [...]

See 14 February. In my Group Leader capacity I sent the attached letter to the North Norfolk News & EDP in response to a letter about why we didn’t vote for Labour’s proposal for a young person’s travel card. Ltr NNN 200212 re budget I do occasionally wonder how many people read political articles and letters who are not already politically [...]

Happisburgh

See 21 February. Anglian Water have reacted quickly! Got someone out there the same day as I reported it and they’ve booked CCTV to have a look at the pipes next Tuesday. Also told me what they are doing which is really helpful so I am able to inform residents.

Supporting Families

From time to time I get people contact me with issues relating to “Social Services” – both in respect of children and adults. Always makes me feel very humble when I hear about the challenges that some people face in life. Very personal matters which obviously have no place on a blog. There has been quite [...]
